I Am In Wilkinson and I Am Apolitical
Okay, I’ll say it. I’m in Wilkinson and I am Apolitical. I’ve tried to hide it for years, but now that I’m a senior, I feel that it’s only right to confess. I’m majoring in Creative Writing because I like stories, not because I understand symbolism. I’m like that Hemingway guy; there’s no underlying message in my writing. It’s just words, for fuck’s sake.
I guess I just didn’t realize when I committed to my major that everyone was going to be so informed. It was easy to act like I knew what was going on at first, but now I’m kind of just lost. All I do now is sigh and shake my head whenever anyone brings up a recent news headline. Everyone else seems to have the same reaction, so I guess I’m doing something right. I’ve been able to slip into the background during group conversations because these Wilkinson people are just so talkative. What can I say, I’m just a man of few words. I also just don’t really care. I have assignments to work on. Stories to write. Who gives a fuck about a skirmish across an ocean? Have you ever tried keeping up in a conversation with Instagram infographic warriors? That’s real shit.
